Ihr fliegt demnächst in den Urlaub mit den Kindern und müsst am liebsten den halben Haushalt im Handgepäck haben - feuchte Tücher, Handcreme, Kopfschmerztabletten, Bonbons, ggf. einen Satz Ersatzklamotten für die Kinder, falls sie sich bei den Turbulenzen mit ihrem O-Saft bekleckern, die (DSLR-)Kamera soll auch dazu, was zu Lesen, die Sonnenbrille und ja, das Portemonnaie, die Tickets und die Pässe sollten lieber auch mit... Habe ich was vergessen? So geht es mir jedenfalls immer, wenn ich mit dem Flieger unterwegs bin und die Kinder dabei habe; (fast) alles würde in einer normalen Handtasche passen, wenn es nicht die besagte Kamera gäbe. Ohne die ich nicht in den Urlaub fliege und im Koffer sollte man sie nicht transportieren. Man weiß es nie.
Are you familiar with this situation? You fly on your vacation with your family and kids and have to pack half of your belongings into your hand luggage - tissues, hand cream, headache medicine, candy, eventually a set of spare clothes for the kids, if they splash the orange juice during turbulence, the DSLR-camera, something to read, the sunglasses and yes, the tickets and the passes should better go with you... This is at least my situation when I'm traveling by plane with the kids; (almost) everything I mentioned would fit in a normal handbag, but not the mentioned camera. I always take it on holidays with me and don't pack it in the big luggage. You never know.

Jahrelang bin ich mit diversen Taschen und Rucksäcken durch die Weltgeschichte geflogen, war aber nie so richtig zufrieden - zu viel mitzunehmen, zu wenig Platz, zu unerreichbar (weil auf dem Rücken), zu was-weiß-ich... Bis zu diesem Sommer, als ich zufällig eine Kugeltasche nach dem Schnitt von Farbenmix sah. Diese schien groß genug zu sein, um alles verstauen zu können, was ich brauchte, vor allem meine Kamera (denn eins muss ich noch sagen: ich reise ungern mit einer speziellen Kameratasche, in einigen Regionen dieser Erde sollte man sein Fotoequipment ja nicht unbedingt zur Schau tragen - und eine Kameratasche würde das Gegenteil bewirken).
I flew with several bags and backpacks around the world for years but was never really happy with them - too much to carry with, too little space in the bag, too unreachable (cause' on the back), too whatever... The situation changed this summer, when I found a bowling bag, made after a Farbenmix sewing pattern. This bag looked big enough to be able to transport everything I would need and especially my camera (I forgot to mention: I don't like to travel with my camera in a special camera bag, there are some places in this world where you shouldn't carry your camera too obviously, and a camera bag is obvious).

So kam ich zu einem weiteren Sommer-Nähprojekt, außer meinen Espadrilles und der Sarihose. Der Stoff stand für mich fest, es sollte die gleiche grobe Baumwolle mit dem schönen japanischen Seigaiha-Muster sein, die ich auch für mein zweites Paar Espadrilles benutzte - ich habe mal als Kind gelernt, dass man die Handtasche passend zu den Schuhen wählen sollte. Und ich muss Euch wahrscheinlich nicht mehr erzählen, wie sehr ich Japan und die japanischen traditionellen Muster mag. Als Futter wählte ich ein Asanoha-Baumwollstoff, in beige und dunkelblau, passend zum Außenstoff, der Gurtband kommt auch aus Japan (alles bei Kiseki bestellt). Die dunkelblaue Baumwolle ist von Lala & Fluse.
This is how I had another summer sewing project, along with my espadrilles and my sari pants. I already knew what fabric to use, it should be the same gross cotton with the beautiful Japanese pattern as for my second pair of espadrilles - as a child I learned that the bag should match the shoes. And I probably don't have to tell you again how I like Japan and the traditional Japanese patterns. I chose an asanoha cotton fabric in beige and dark blue for the lining, the strap is also from Japan (all these bought from Kiseki). The dark blue cotton fabric is from Lala & Fluse.
Das Schnittmuster, die Anleitung, die Stoffe und sonstiges Zubehör flog also mit nach Rumänien - und kam zurück als fertige Tasche samt Portemonnaie.
The sewing pattern, the instructions, the fabrics and other accessories flew with me to Romania for the holidays - and came back as a finished bag and a wallet.

Als eine Änderung zum Originalmuster habe ich vorne und hinten jeweils eine Tasche (für Zeitschriften, Postkarten etc.) genäht und da innen keine vorgesehen waren, kamen dazu eine Reißverschluss-, zwei Stifte- und eine Handytasche. Zusätzlich habe ich aus einem japanischen Schrägband Paspel genäht und die Tasche damit eingefasst.
As a change to the original pattern I sewed a pocket on the front and back side of the bag (to carry magazines or postcards, for example). Inside, I added a zipper pocket, two pen pockets and a mobile pocket, these were also not included in the sewing pattern. From a Japanese bias tape I made some piping to sew it around the bag.
Den Boden habe ich durch eine zusätzliche Stoffschicht verstärkt, dann kann auch die Kamera problemlos damit transportiert werden.
I reinforced the bottom of the bag with an extra sheet of fabric, so I can carry my camera without any problems.

Mein "normales" Portemonnaie ist relativ groß, ich wollte aber auch ein kleines haben. Das Schnittmuster und die Anleitung dazu habe ich hier gefunden und etwas vergrößert, damit ich auch ein Personalausweis darin tragen kann.
My "normal" wallet is quite big, so I wanted to have a smaller one, too. I found the sewing pattern and the instructions here but made it a little larger, so my id-card would fit in it.
